Sustainability & Resiliency in the Master Plan
The DEA steering committee members have established a subcommittee under Councilman Benson’s Green Task Force to develop sustainability and resiliency recommendations for the city’s Master Plan of Policies. We are excited that Dara O’Byrne from Detroit Future City is co-chairing this subcommittee, that so many environmental and community advocates are involved, and that we are working with John Baran from City Planning & Development and Kathryn Underwood from City Council’s Law & Policy Division.
We all agreed that it was important to have shared definitions for “sustainability” and “resiliency” from the start. Once we have those finalized (hopefully by our second meeting), this post will be updated with our definitions.
Our monthly workplan:
August 20 @ Detroit Future City | Introductory meeting: role of Master Plan, proposed workplan, definitions, parameters |
September 17 @ DWEJ (Hannan House Gallery) | Presentations from DFC and PDD on current status of MPP; finalize definitions (HW: assign case studies) |
October | Case study analysis of municipal Master Plans with sustainability and resiliency components (HW: decide how to prioritize the concepts) |
November | Develop list of sustainability & resiliency priority concepts to incorporate |
December | Stakeholder session on priority concepts |
January, February, March | Develop “Issues, Goals, Policies” for Sustainability & Resiliency |
April, May | Share and discuss recommendations with PDD |
